Default Picked up new evaporator at A&A

Made the 200 mile trip yesterday to pick up my new 2x7 raised flue and airtight arch at A&A Metal Shop in Ulysses, Pa. I had been there before when Atlee and Andy Miller owned it. I got to meet the new owner Dan Miller in person for the first time. He has made some upgrades since my last A&A evaporator (a 2.5x10). Unlike my first one, the tops of the pans are bent like a traditional pan giving it more rigidity. Also, he included the air over fire setup for no charge. His helper made up a flip top cap for me while we loaded it up. I am sure this will serve me well since my former evaporator from them worked well. I was able to make 1000+ gallons on it in 3 years. He also made me a bottling unit with stand, roof jacks, and steam hood. These aren't the shiniest units but make nice syrup same as any other rig. 20191227_195816.jpg

That does look like a nice unit. Have fun going "old school" I'll always burn wood for the simple reason as it connects me to when I sugared with my great Grandfather when I was a kid and it was a wood fired rig.

Nice looking evaporator. Shiny is not needed to make good syrup. Should serve you well.

Nice lookin rig. What do you think the boiling rate is on it. Are you planning on running a RO at all?

No idea on boiling rate. I would be happy with 35-40 gph. No more RO for me going back to primitive

    Jason,
I like it! Doesn't have to be shine eeee to make good syrup. We are heading in to January so it will be maple season again before we know it!
Your new rig will do the job and boil like crazy!
    Have fun!

Great rig, every report I see about A&A is good, and the prices are hard to beat.
Dave Klish, I recently ordered a 2x6 wood fired evaporator from A&A Sheet Metal which I will be converting to oil fired
Now have solar, 2x6 finish pan, 5 bank 7x7 filter press, large water jacketed bottler, and tankless water heater.
Recently bought another Gingerich RO, this one was a 125, but a second membrane was added thus is a 250, like I had.
    After running a 2x3, a 2x6, 3x8 tapping from 79 taps up to 1320 all woodfired, now I'm going to a 2x6 oil fired and a 200-425 taps.

I was there today. Ordered the same set-up, but 2x6, rather than 2x7. Dan and Nelson do great work.. this will be my second set-up fro A&A. Can’t beat the prices.
