    Default Fire pit test

I decided to try it out after making my chinney i had some cardboard to burn and there was some water in the pans. It seems to work ok only thing im wondering is should i put a brick base inside also does it matter that the flame is actually hitting the bottoms of the pans? Or am i gonna wanna keep the fire low? Im gonna get a piece of sheet metal or something to cover the front completely when i actually start making syrup. Any other problems ypu see or tips would be great

Make that fire roar as hard as you can. Don't worry about the flames....some kind of blower or fan in front of that will help.

    Jared,
Buckeye gold is right on the mark. Generally speaking hotter fire = better boiling.

Keep sap in the pan and have the flames hitting the bottom hard. You will get the best boil if the fire is far enough below the pan so the mid tip of the flame hits. Just like when you solder, heat the fitting with the tip of the flame, not the middle. The tip is where the most combustion of the wood gases has occured.
Dave Klish, I recently ordered a 2x6 wood fired evaporator from A&A Sheet Metal which I will be converting to oil fired
Now have solar, 2x6 finish pan, 5 bank 7x7 filter press, large water jacketed bottler, and tankless water heater.
Recently bought another Gingerich RO, this one was a 125, but a second membrane was added thus is a 250, like I had.
    After running a 2x3, a 2x6, 3x8 tapping from 79 taps up to 1320 all woodfired, now I'm going to a 2x6 oil fired and a 200-425 taps.

Looked at your video. Looks real good to me. Maybe put a brick spacer under both sides of the steel front so the draft opening is at the bottom. Other than that Keep boiling! Start looking for trees!
