I just picked up this year's supply of quart decanters and when I got home noticed that the caps were the flip-top types. Going through the old posts I noticed that some people had trouble with this style. It seemed that the main problem was leaving the bottles on their sides for too long.

Here's what Smokey Lake says: "TIPS FOR USING THE FLIP-TOP CAPS: Cap your bottle immediately upon filling it. Tighten by hand. Do NOT over-tighten as this can warp the cap. Do NOT leave bottles laying on their sides."

In past years we used the metal caps with great success and want to avoid problems. With these flip top caps we plan to follow the same procedures which are:

Fill preheated bottle to near the top.
Wipe off syrup drips off the rim.
Hand tighten the cap.
Flip it over briefly then set upright.

Those of you who've used these caps a lot, what lessons have you learned and is my proposed procedure a good one that will result in near 100% sealing?
