Have a Wesfab short bank three plate filter press. Just wondering how much DE everyone is using
Go to the bottling and filtering forum and look at "How much diatomaceous earth to use " thread on 3-16-15.
The amount used also depends on the DE that you purchase. Dicalite DE is finer and Celite DE is courser. If you use Celite, it takes 30% less DE. (The formula I used for the DE in my post was for Dicalite)

We start with 3 cups to start with and add an additional 2 cups in the remaining syrup. It fills the plates full, but allows us to do 10+ gallons.

We go with at least 3 cups, 4 if there seems to be a lot of niter.
I put 4 cups in my precharge bucket and 5 more in my filtering tank. My short bank press holds 9 cups.
