    Default How's the flow?

I've been surprised the past few days that the flow hasn't been better in my neck of the woods. I had a good initial run a few weeks ago, but very few full buckets since then (even after a day or two).

It was running hard when I collected yesterday morning. This morning, not much.

I know many of you are on vacuum or gravity. Wondering if you're seeing the same results?

Looks like it could open up midweek, but the forecast is for very warm temps after that.

It takes a while for the trees to thaw out after nights well below freezing. They'll come around when it warms up a bit.

Chris, Not too far south of you. Ran about 1 gpt Mon-Wed last week......then shot up to close to 2 gpt last Thurs-Fri. Then collected 130 gal. to finish off the week Sunday night. Yesterday almost no flow in the buckets; but about 15 gal. each in both my line tanks. Not very promising on the forecast either, for later this week.

I’m waiting for the rain to let up so I can check my buckets. Then a dump run, then I can collect.

I got 40 gallons from my 84 taps yesterday, which for us being in the shade with smaller trees, was a record day. I probably could get a bit more out of my trees if i change some of the low gravity lines back to 5/16". Learning curve with the 3/16" tubing.
2015- Didn't know my new property enough to tap anything. 4-feet of snow on the ground.
2016- 41 Taps with home made barrel evaporator. Made 1.5 gallons syrup.
2017- 79 Taps with home made block arch evaporator. Made 2.47 gallons syrup
2018- 91 Taps again with home made block arch. Homemade RO worked great. Made 6.96 gallons syrup.
2019- 84 Taps. Building another arch. RO in place. New Smoky Lake 2x4 Divided Pan. Everything switched to 3/16" tubing.

Pulled my taps today. Not much flowing at all and I’m almost out of wood.

Looking into a small RO system to cut down on the amount of time boiling and wood needed.

Our weird season continues... The temperature shot up from 33* this morning to 59* at 10:30AM and then it started raining. The temperature dropped back into mid 40s by 1PM and the sap started flowing modestly. Sap had not flowed since a very small flow Friday. With no real freeze since Thursday morning was not expecting anything until after the freeze tonight. Still 1 to 2 ft of snow in the woods. Maybe we'll finally get some big runs this week.
