    Default Broadening my Shurflo Experiment

What little bit my sap has run the one thing is clear the shurflo on 16 taps out produced my 26 buckets and 100 on line Friday. Now in fairness less than half my trees where actually running and those that where running were down low which is where the shurflo also is. but I am nervous at how short this season appears to be and I am thinking of adding one of my mainlines to the shurflo. The current line to the pump is 3/16 neck up to 5/16 just before entering the pump. The main line I want to add has 4 runs of 3/16th flowing into it and totals around 45 taps. The mainline is 3/4 I wonder can I neck that down to 1/2" and connect that to the pump? would it work even though its a different size line that the other one?

2011 Hurricane Irene rips thru my small sugar bush cost me to lose 20% of taps

32 taps on 5/16 line with check valves
57 taps on 3/16 line with check valves
55 buckets with total tapped trees of 144

It will work fine and once you do it you will never go back to strictly gravity.

I’ve ran several runs of 100+ taps off 3/4 main into surflo’s. Works great. I think it works better then running 3/16 or 5/16 directly into pump as it doesn’t vapour lock or start and stop. You typically get a steady trickle into pump which keeps vacuum up and prevents the need to have recirc line.

I had 210 on a shurflo 4008 last year. Works great on a tight system. I used 1 inch main because I new I would expand this year.
Remember to keep on ticking while the sap is dripping.
