Default Tapping North of Nashwauk (Effie) 2019

Well all in on 3/16/2019. 11 runs with ~250 taps on 3/16” and 3/16” drops. Weather looks to be ideal starting the 18th. Will add 12v vacuum soon.

Was definitely a challenge with all the snow. Packing trails and allowing to freeze ahead of tapping was a life saver. The My Tracks App proved to be fairly worthless trying to find where the lines ran. Ended up locating first tree on line then looking at the distance to next tap then scanning the woods for a tree that matched. Need to come up with a better way of marking this year for sure.
Best of luck. May the Sap start flowing and syrup be abundant.
Opened my last pint last week.

Decent flow the last 3 days. Today 3/24 not to be very warm but we will see. After that it looks like the next two weeks are holding for ideal temps. Subject to the accuracy of the models utilized by our weather forecaster.
Will boil first batch down this week sometime. Waiting for a full tank ( bulk boil in a 300 gallon milk tank).

First boil for the season on 3/28 finishing on 3/29. 360 gallons of sap reduced for 30 hours to 9 gallons at approx. 12 GPH. It is not the most efficient method but a method for sure. Temperatures took a dive on 3/30 with all lines remaining froze. Looks to be ideal coming up with the exception of the rain.
Curious, does sap flow with ideal temps yet raining?

It has been my observation Jukenjer, that right before the rain, the drop in barometric pressure can be very good for sap flow. For me this year it's been wind and too late in the day of a warm up that is my worst enemy
