    Default Tapped in Weare

Tapped this past Saturday and was waiting for things to start flowing. Collected this morning –*20-30 gallons from my 40 buckets.

Buckets on the south side of the tree were all full. On the north side they were 1/4 - 1/2 full. Will be interesting to see what happens in the next few days with the really warm weather.

I’m using the Sapmeister taps for the first time this year. They have a flared end so that the sap doesn’t run back to the tree (like the earlier versions did). However, one of my taps was inserted at an angle and the sap was running back to the tree. I was able to find something in the truck to fix it for the time being.IMG_8612.jpg

The long range forecast for next week looks good - but not much further beyond that, unless the weather changes. Should be good boiling weather too!
2024 - 16 taps - buckets on our best producing trees, still boiling on a block arch with slight modifications/refinements over the years.
    2021 - 25 taps - all buckets
2013-2020 - 30/41 taps: discovering which trees were the best producers
2012 - First year - 21 taps in our backyard - block arch evaporator with 3 steam table pans!

Slowed significantly the last few days. Gives me more time to clean things up properly and be ready when things flow.

Seems like I’m always rushing to get things together so this is a nice change.
