My buddy bought a mano pan so just a heads up..
It works good but uses alot ot fire to get a really good boil..I was surprised how the thicker stainless steel doesn't transfer the heat . He ended up buying a pan from CDL cause he was using alot of wood

Thanks for the heads up, was hoping the thicker steel would make it easier and quicker...hope it works better than my hotel steamers I was using...

I have never used hotel pans before I'm assuming they are 22g ss. So I bet you get a really good boil in them. The mano pan will boil but just seems to have odd boiling characteristics because of the pan metal thickness.. let me know how your set up works for you .I'm very curious hear compared to what my buddy had experienced.

FWIW My stainless steel hotel pans work perfectly. Hold 5g sap each and cover teh top of my cast iron woodstoves.

ETA: weather looking a teeny bit more promising in terms of temps but not liking the wind...wind will kill the run on a nice sunny day.

Just checked the weather for this area and it doesn't look like much good weather till the last week in March hoping that might change. Last yr I boiled the second week in Feb for a couple of runs and then it froze for up for a couple of weeks. Mother nature grr

    Hey
Was a great sunday to try and get out to my sugar bush..emphasis on TRY ..path into the bush was ok but there no way to get around to even think about tapping yet i still have over 2 feet of snow in most places..
I could walk around and tap but collecting the sap from 4 collection sites is going to be impossible till a day of rain k ocks down the snow..
Im feeling this might be a fustrating start to a season

JeffB, just set your spiles a little lower than you would normally cause the snow is deep. I will have to tap closer to mid-chest height (I'm 5'10) because otherwise I will be lifting buckets down off the hooks later in the season.

Paulslund...you're planning on tapping during this work week? I'm probably not tapping til Sunday.

We got our remaining 1100 taps done on Saturday. The going was better in snowshoes this weekend because the rain last weekend made the snow a bit more dense but it wasn't so crusty that you couldn't get lines out of the snow. All the mainlines across roads/trails are up and releasers are in the woods. Still need to spend 1 day to get some odds and ends done and to wash the tanks but we should be ready to go when the weather breaks.

Got second bush ready to tap today, chewed saddles, drop lines, and laterals. I know where to put out the “ feeding “ stations out for our 4 legged friends now. Leaving worst until last,as I know there’s a lot of damage in the last bush. Then if sap doesn’t come on can put up some more new mainline and increase the tap count for this year
