Got another 17 G yesterday. Less than I figured but ok. Rained all night and no freeze. Not sure what will be there today. Planning on boiling Saturday. If we get the snow tonight it will make for a nice day to be outside for a campfire with the kids.

Event tent looks great Al, was thinking of doing one as well, so far I just move the wood wagon to cut the wind and use tarps to give a bit of shelter, no fun in the rain or wet snow...

MIkeC - wow you're doing well, up here it's been just sheer frustration this season.

And...just for fun...check out MarkReynolds' avatar...he is usually in Southwestern Ontario thread. You'll see why ;-)

Al, Not sure if you are getting snow like us tonight but those event tents don’t have a very good snow load rating to them haha. I may be speaking from experience

Hehe I hear you Corey, and Al take heed...the other structure I built last year, besides Shack Whacky, is the Mammoth. It is a workshed and woodshed for my sugaring supply, a salvaged and braced old pipe garage frame covered with farm tarps ratcheted down so pretty snug but still with some play. So far they've stood up nicely to the snow load, but I go inside with a regular ol' corn broom and dislodge the snow from the inside. Slides down and off the roof and takes no time to do.

Haha - I see he has some little helpers too. Very cool. Didn't get anything yesterday. Stopped dead. Only 5 G. There was no freeze here Thurs Night, but I still figured some of the better trees would put out. No dice. We have about 70 G in the tote and going to burn it off today to get rid of it. Interested to see what the sugar % will be. Windy and cold now. Supposed to go to +2 this aft with good sun, that might start some flowing again.

    Have a good weekend everyone.

Ditto here, I thought my trees might run Thurs evening and night as some of the big ones were running a little...but nope! And after last night it's frickin cold out. Does look like there will be sun later on but it'll be starting all over again, I'm afraid, esp for the big times.

Meantime my ol cast-iron woodstove has been quietly evaporating down the sap to about 10l now...no, not bpiling, but the slow rate of evaporating instead at around 80 or so takes off the water without my humidity levels going whack. Got the fire going first thing this morning, even before I fed the cats!

Collected my sap yesterday and have about 125L out of 31 buckets. Some trees had mabey a L in them, and one tree had 12l in the buckets.. of course that was one of the first ones I checked so I got excited. My buddy is coming over to spend time boiling with me.. I think we'll just have coffee and shoot the Sh%^t for a bit. Still -10 out and -19 with the windchill! Ugh! This week's forecast does not bode well for lots of sap either, unfortunately. The amount of water under the snow is crazy.. if I fell off my beaten down path and dig into the snow, the footprint fills up with about an inch or two of water (well last night anyways.. maybe not so much this morning.. )

Sunny out now but -10, more with windchill....I agree with Paul, I think it's going to be a pretty piss-poor year for sap. Good thing I still have lots saved from last year in its top-sekkrit hiding place. Now, if only I could remember where that is...;-)

Well I'm going to act optimistic and go out and get Shack Whacky loaded up with combustibles. Going to be away most of the afternoon helping out at a wellness fair, so who knows, the trees MIGHT produce vast quantities for me to collect later today which will necessitate putting SW to work. After spending so much time and $$ building it, I sure want to get some use out of it!!!
