    Default Used equipment demand

I am a little upset that there has been almost zero interest in my 2x8 evaporator which has been on the trader, craigslist, and ebay the past several months. I paid over 13500 for this setup less than two years ago. I have dropped the price to 8500. No interest. I realize that being an oil fired setup limits its appeal, but I also advertise that I am willing to sell the pans separately. Is the used market hurting right now, or am I just asking too much?

You may be slightly high, but if you find the right buyer they will dicker on the price until you reach an agreement. If it was a 2x6 SL on an SL arch I'd consider it, but being I'm down sizing a 2x8 is just too much evaporator for my future plans.
Hang in there, it will sell. If you don't get any bites by mid Nov, start dropping the price but not too fast. Give more info in your write-up. The main thing is how many gal/hr you boil away or how many gal/hr of syrup you draw at the concentration you run.

Dave Klish, I recently ordered a 2x6 wood fired evaporator from A&A Sheet Metal which I will be converting to oil fired
Now have solar, 2x6 finish pan, 5 bank 7x7 filter press, large water jacketed bottler, and tankless water heater.
Recently bought another Gingerich RO, this one was a 125, but a second membrane was added thus is a 250, like I had.
    After running a 2x3, a 2x6, 3x8 tapping from 79 taps up to 1320 all woodfired, now I'm going to a 2x6 oil fired and a 200-425 taps.

We just got what I consider a deal on 2x6 oil fired rig. 8 years old, not used the last 3 (and it looks it..........a lot of cleaning to do) but we got it with a 300 gallon poly tank and 200 buckets thrown in for $3300 cash. With that said, yours is newer and bigger but $8500 is probably the upper end of what you'll get in my opinion.

I get that. But this same set up new is going to cost probably over 14000.

Hard sell. we just paid 13,500 for used d&g 3x10 oil fired rig. Came with preheater, draw off, stacks, caps, rear and front pan washer, 2 extra pans, and draw off tank. Maybe if your set up was all one brand it might attract brand loyal buyers, but being a hybrid it may not attract the right buyers.

Unfortunately a 2x6 and 2x8 oil fired Evaporators are not a highly sought after combination. Most people in that size want wood fired and most that want oil are looking for 30x8 or bigger.

I agree with that but we did spend a lot of time looking for an oil fired rig in that size. There aren't a lot out there either.

I think that you have it priced right, you just need to find that 1 person looking for a rig like that. It's kind of like the Cadillac of Entry Level Oil Fired rigs and there's only going to be so many people looking for one that size. But I think someone will come along eventually, maybe you could get a lender of sorts to check it out so you can arrange financing or something like that, not everyone has 8500 cash kicking around.

I would hold out for the season to get closer. I know you want to replace it with cash in hand. I believe the trend is going be for smaller rigs and the oil arch is a plus. With the newer RO technologies and higher concentration levels smaller will be better. I don't know to many people that are looking to concentrate to high brix and then fire with wood. Its all about speed and oil is speed in firing and clean up.

Timing is everything and the lack of interest is more about timing than price in my opinion. I have a 3X10 oil fired and I wouldn't let it go for under 15,000.00 because its paid for and kicks butt when it comes to GPH. It aint pretty but its a tool that works great.

Hold on, a three year old rig is worth $8500 all day long, keep it posted and repost to move it back to the top. Unfortunately a lot of people in that size range will buy old worn out crap but they got it for $1200 (way over payed). I had the same issues when I was selling my 4 year old 600 RO. Sat on it a year but got what I was asking and what it was worth.
