Just received permission to tap the mountain behind my house and sugar shack. Have not counted yet but hoping at least 300 or more taps. I can flow it all to within 30 ft of my shack. Problem being its 4500 ft at least to get there. Figuring on 1" mainline. That comes to about 1400 bucks. Seems like a lot for just getting going with a tough year this past season. Amd for only 300 or so taps.
Options.
1. Find cheaper line (would 3/4 work?) What if i used a tote to catch 3/16 lines and 3/4 just to flow down to shack. Give a buffer for peak flow anyway. Could 1/2 work with that?
2. Flow it half way to a camp rd and haul to shack and handle 2x as much.
3. ??? Anything else.

If you dont plan to hook up a vacuum pump 1/2in line would have plenty of capacity for 300 taps if the top end is vented. I currently have around 400 on one 1/2 line and it dosnt usually get over half full.

Get a potential tap count first. It would take a well experienced tubing installer to estimate taps very accurately without at least doing a survey. Your 300 might only be 175 or it could be 800. The answer and suggestions for those extremes would be quite different.

If it is a mountain, 3/16 should be in order. From there even the right 12V diaphragm pump thru a 3/4" line and maybe even a 1/2" line might do ok. Is there any drop in that 4500' distance?

Tons of drop. Trees are all above our spring and it is on 2" main but must be hooked up to a pressure reducer to keep from blowing everything apart in the house.
3/16 is a given for me. Just struggling to find the most econimical way to travel that mile to the shack.

Checked out the mountain last night. Fog was thick but easily 300-400 taps on south side with another 200 on north side that will all flow naturally to the gap and down to the sugar shack. Lots more in time and different means to get it down but not at the moment.

Are yours on 3/16 vacuum or gravity? I was thinking with a tote in the mountain that would allow a buffer for high volume flow but the line could catch up once flow slowed down. Had a hard time finding 1000 ft 1/2". Only 500".
