Default Shurflo with temp on and off

For those of you using a temp controller on a shurflo pump, what are you using to control the temp the unit turns on and the temp the unit turns off?

Search on amazon. I think my unit was $6 and it works great. I have it programmed for 30* off and 33* on.

You can sometimes buy the W1209 temperature controller on eBay for as low as $3. It will be just a circuit board and thermocouple (probe). I set mine to turn off at -2 degC and turn on at +2 degC.

I use the controller built by Dave at mountain maple. Not cheap but it works great. The one I got controls the pump and will shut it off 1) when the temp drops below the set point. 2) if the battery voltage drops below a set point. 3) if the vac drops below a set point (as when the sap quits running). And it will turn the pump back on when the setpoints to turn on are met. It also opens the system to atmosphere so the pump can drain to prevent freezing and the tubing can drain with gravity. Mine cost $400 and without the vac sensor I think it is $300, but I consider it money well spent. I have 105 taps on 3/16 with the shur flow pump and running 21 inches of vac at the sap tank and 25 at the top of a couple lines I have gauges on. The pumps are only about $60. Good run days will get over 2 gallons per tap, and when the gravity ones quit running the vac still gets sap. Hope to get more taps on vac next year ....

I'm using the cheapy linked above. Make sure to validate/calibrate the temp. Mine reads a bit high. Here's a link to some instructions. Comments on the page make it even clearer.

I like your setup could you explain all of the components and what they do I see the temp controller and the I,m wondering what the other black object on the left side of it and what it does. I,m in the process of building the same unit as I have a 100 watt solar panel / battery /same controller for the panel but want to set up my system like yours thanks if you have anymore info
