    Default Tapping weather

I was going to tap this morning as it is the first day of my vacation. It is supposed to be 57 and 66 Tues and wed then go back into normal sugar weather on Thurs. Would it be beneficial to wait until Thurs. I don't want to fill my lines full of snot to start the season as they are pretty clean. Thanks jeff

Wanabe - I just put in 75 taps yesterday and the day before at my woodlot near Galway and not much was happening with sap flow. The weather doesn't look to promising coming up this week but we'll have to see what happens. I'm curious as to what you mean by snot in your lines?

Most of my mainlines are black plastic pipe. Any sap that sits in these for any length of time at 70 degree makes the sap come out spoiled. I've seen it at the end of the year after a few warm days when you fire the vacuum pump up the release fills full of what looks like spoiled milk. I was just curious if anyone is waiting till after those two days.

Probably best to hold off till Thursday when the temps look more favorable again for sap flow.

That's what I'm doing. Getting everything ready in the sugar house so I can spend all my time on fixing leaks when the pumps are running. Jeff
