    Default Tapping doomed trees

A property owner has informed us that a section of the sugarbush will be cleared next year for development. Wouldn't it make sense to tap the doomed small diameter trees that are already on the lateral lines (we would only need drops)? Wouldn't it also make sense to re-drill tap holes on the larger trees late in the season for more sap? We strive to be a good maple steward but in this case sustainability doesn't seem to be a factor.

Yes, i think both your ideas are good if in fact the trees are coming down. Good luck

I agree, except 4 taps in a 6" tree will not yield enough after one to be worth the cost of the other 3 taps/drops. You would however possibly do OK going maybe double the normal tapping guidelines.
Dave Klish, I recently ordered a 2x6 wood fired evaporator from A&A Sheet Metal which I will be converting to oil fired
Now have solar, 2x6 finish pan, 5 bank 7x7 filter press, large water jacketed bottler, and tankless water heater.
Recently bought another Gingerich RO, this one was a 125, but a second membrane was added thus is a 250, like I had.
    After running a 2x3, a 2x6, 3x8 tapping from 79 taps up to 1320 all woodfired, now I'm going to a 2x6 oil fired and a 200-425 taps.

Call NYDEC and report a breeding pair of lynx in the sugar bush. Perhaps that will keep the skidders at bay for a few years. That suck!
