    Question Glycerin barrels

I bought a few food grade barrels at an auction. One of them had a label on it that it had contained 99.7% glycerin. Everything I seemed to find it seems like if I get it cleaned out good it should be okay. Does anyone know any differently?

Okay does it show a company that made the stuff. If so google it and find out what it was used for. It might have been used for food such as capsules.
Should be a easy wash for that one as it's tasteless in the first place.
If you check what glycerin is all it is is water and fat and is used for many foods it turns out. I used to have to take it to rebuild my finger nails after a wreck.

The company website didn't say what it was used for. I just found the generic uses and they seemed okay. It was the yellow warning label that made me wonder.

I found one website said it would absorb water and at that strength would blister your tongue. I actually thought I would leave the little bit in the barrel and it might give me a higher sugar percentage in my sap.

I'm currently waiting on two 55 gal food grade drums from the Sara Lee (pie company) plant that contained glycerin. The line manager said they'd be perfect for collecting sap.

Did anyone have success or failure trying to clean out the glycerin barrels? I can't find much info in regards to sap collection but lots of people clean them out for water storage and have had success. There is a one time use IBC tote locally that held 99.7 Kosher Glycerine that's only 75 bucks and thought i would pick it up.

I bought a 275 gallon tote that had it and took it to the car wash. Using the rinse cycle and the hot water cleaned it all out completely. I have been using the tote since then.
