I have a small steam hood for my 2 x 4 smoky lake hobby hybrid. I need to put a pipe on it.. can I use galvanized pipe? I only need to go 6 feet or so.

I would use aluminum over galvanized. Any drips coming back in the pan from the galvanized could contaminate the syrup.

I only need a 4 to 6 foot peice of alluminum or stainless steel pipe. any suggestions where to buy new or used?
I would use stainless.
8" or 10"? I have some 8" stainless I'm not using....
BTW, I test-fired my new 2x5 Smoky Lake / Badgerland rig yesterday. Amazing what that thing does over my old flat pan.
1980 - 6 taps, stone fire pit, drain pan evaporator, 1 pint of syrup

2017 - 170 taps on 3/16, 2x4 Mason XL, NextGen RO. 50 gallons of syrup
2018 - 250+ taps on gravity and buckets, 2x5 Smokey Lake arch and Beaverland pan.
2019 - 250+ taps on gravity. A few buckets. 35 gallons of syrup.
2020 - 300+ taps on gravity. 50 gallons of syrup.
2021 - 280 taps on gravity and 40 buckets. 35 gallons of syrup.
Aluminum has been used for steam stacks for a long time. It works fine and is less money than stainless. Unless you are going for the polished looks, it is a way to save money.

I agree. Where can I purchase it?
You should be able to have it made at a local sheet metal shop. I had them fab a custom steam hood and both stainless and aluminum stack.
Used to be most all the Maple Equipment companies sold it. I don’t know now if they still carry it.

I need to build a steam hood, How would galvanized contaminate the syrup? A lot of people use galvanized buckets to collect.
Just trying to learn here.
