I made pure maple fudge last year and coated it in chocolate. I used milk chocolate chips and melted them down on low heat. The semi sweet chocolate chips don't seem to work as well. I poured a little maple syrup in with the chocolate when it was melted for a little flavour. Maybe that helped a bit but it was pretty workable when it was hot right off the stove.
Are you making your own chocolate from scratch or using chips?

Yes I was trying the semi sweet chocolate chips, wanted to get them like hot syrup so I could put it over the candies, failed so my wife tried putting the chocolate on with a spatula, too heavy, and sickenly sweet and messy
