Roof jack installation
Hoping someone can help me with this. I ordered a new roof jack for the smoke stack on our new evaporator. The stack is 9". The roof jack measures 11". The rain collar is adjustable and will fit fine. Where I got the roof jack from they said the 11" is normal. So how does this work? Someone must have experienced this?

Sounds like a roof jack for double wall pipe. When I got a roof jack from a heating supply house for my 10” stack I asked for an 8”jack. Fit perfect as double wall pipe has a 1” space all around it between pipes.

On most jacks those measurements are right. Stack should go up thru with a 1" gap all around, storm collar will cover that gap so rain doesn't come down it. Gives you the ability to raise or lower the stack real handy on hoods. Also will allow for some shift which most sugarhouse do with the frost going in and out

Ok. Good to know. So what keeps it from moving around in that gap? It will have a spark arrestor top with a cap cover. Worried that it will sway from the wind. Guess I could put 4 SS bolts through the roof jack on the inside to rest against the side of the stack.
It should slip through but it shouldn't be overly loose. We ended up tieing in cables on our end section to secure it because it was so high to be away from the cupola.IMG_20170211_161345.jpg
I would also suggest not to wait for snow before trying it. Lol Took 3 months to get my stack from CDL.
