moving an evaporator

I am contemplating getting a 3x8. How is the best way to move one. Do the bricks and everything have to come out? Close to a 4hr. drive to get it home. Never gave much thought to it before today. Any tips appreciated.

I always take the bricks out. Take the grates out..empty the arch.Think about where you will put the pans they should not be flexed and need to be supported.

When I moved my 2x8 I put angle iron skids under it and used 1" pipe for rollers and used a winch to pull it into my dump trailer. Loaded the fire box with wood right to the top which helped keep the bricks in place for the ride home. Was only a half hour ride but it held them in. Then dumped out holding it back with the winch again. Then rolled it across the floor to where it sits. Blocks bars and rollers. No busting my back

Here's what I have used to move 2 in the past with about 140 firebrick in it. Also use them to move dairy tanks and other heavy things. I put one under firebox area and one under center of the back section of evaporator. These are 10,000 lb straps with 3300 work capacity. Nice thing about these is you can Rachet them up so you are picking up level. They work great with tractor and loader bucket by putting one one each side of the bucket.
