Since were posting our home made barrel evaporators...here is mine. I cut it so the pan slides in. Wrapped 1/4 inch tubing around the stack for prheated sap. Boils 5-6 gallons an hour. I was thinking of adding a fan but not sure where. If I place it at the bottom like you guys did, what happens when all the ash covers the pipe?

The ash will not build up if your moving enough air in there. I can cook 3 days in a row 12 hours a day, the coals and the ash just get pushed farther back in the stove. It does make a big difference.

are the bungs a certain MPT? never thought of just trying a 1.5"-2" pipe which that looks like it is.

found out welding this thin of metal is not something I'm used to but I'm getting the job done. hopefully getting started on fire blanket and brick tomorrow. I installed my door pretty low but how should I install a fan? should I build up the back of the arch?

Was thinking about using a 3" bathroom fan in the backside under the built up section but unsure how to terminate it in the fire box. from what I've read tonight I should attempt to make the door airtight. can I attain this with the door I have?

I was also thinking about coming into the bottom of the barrel in the front straight under fire/ metal grating. thoughts??

I made a 2x3 out of diamond plate for my son years ago. We put the air intake in the bottom middle. He could fire it without shutting the fan off. We used a 4 inch air duct blower that I got off from ebay.
30x8 Leader revolution, wood fired blower, steamaway/hood. 903 taps all but 54 on pipeline and 3 vacuum systems. Hauling sap this year with a 99 F350 7.3 diesel dump and of course back up is the Honda 450 and trailer.

Most bungs in steel barrels are 2" pipe thread in the US.
Dave Klish, I recently ordered a 2x6 wood fired evaporator from A&A Sheet Metal which I will be converting to oil fired
Now have solar, 2x6 finish pan, 5 bank 7x7 filter press, large water jacketed bottler, and tankless water heater.
Recently bought another Gingerich RO, this one was a 125, but a second membrane was added thus is a 250, like I had.
    After running a 2x3, a 2x6, 3x8 tapping from 79 taps up to 1320 all woodfired, now I'm going to a 2x6 oil fired and a 200-425 taps.
