Thanks to some great advice from guys on the site I tapped my first 15 trees. Some trees has sap flowing instantly others took a few hrs but all had sap at the end of the day.

Tapped in West Granville today. 25 buckets all ran very good. 23 "same day" taps on a 3/16 was stingy. They were all running when tapped. In past years these trees all kept pace with all other buckets. Many hours to install the 3/16. About an hour hanging 25 buckets. Disappointed in the tubing for the moment, but with a year 2015 3/16 line I experimented with (different hillside) I did learn to be patient! PS: no visible leaks, 25 foot drop last tree to tank, but had to tapped about a 1/3 of the trees 6 feet high to maintain some slope on the zigzag in the stand. Maybe experiencing a head pressure issue. time will tell!

Some of my 5/16" gravity lines have not produced a drop, and others are pouring the sap into the storage containers. One of my small 20 gallon storage tanks was overflowing this morning. Just be patient

Quick season. Last collected and boiled yesterday with 6 gallons in the freezer for bottling. Pulling taps and starting cleanup this weekend.
2024 - Starting with the 25 then more late Feb.
2023 - 25 taps on 11 trees to focus on the process. 9 Gallons and lots of sugar sand. 35 people over for breakfast in April
    2022 - 8 x 14 sugarhouse and a steam bottler. 50 buckets! 9 Gallons syrup and 4 pounds of sugar
2021 - 20 x 30 divided pan on a Mason arch, 34 taps and 8 gallons for family and friends to judge. Dad hooked as well.
2020 - 2 taps, 1/2 pint on a turkey fryer, About 3/4 pint syrup in two weeks - Proof of concept!

Haven't collected since Wednesday, but pulled 23 gallons at 2.2 - 3.4% today. 5 gallons at 2% from the Norway at home so it's still going strong

Thanks Gabe - Hope your season is plentiful

Amberleaf - Yep, just got home. Several of the taps were flowing as soon as I removed the bit from the hole. Wasn't sure that was going to happen with the sub zero temps the last couple days, but they were.

My 3/16 line in the woods ran great over the weekend. Using Shurflo pump with my S3 controller, 20-27" vacuum. Line of 39 taps (about 2/3 reds) produced 50 gallons by 5PM, overflowed my 30 gallon barrel once and still running strong well after dark.
