Default Tapping on the Empire to Harrisville Line

I tapped 7 trees on the 11th for a run of 3/16" tubing and started checking it daily. It was flowing this morning (Valentine's Day). This is only my third year, but the trees have never thawed this early for me. I went out and tapped another 21 trees today. I have three separate runs on 3/16" tubing with about a 30' drop in elevation. All three runs are flowing now.

And boiling my first 60 gallon batch today. Supposed to have four very cold days here starting today. The lines were frozen when I came back from my new sugarbush with an additional 10 gallons.

Cold night my friend! Put together 115 gallons for today fighting snow squalls as I unloaded the tote. Looks like we have a couple of days to do other things and hopefully get a nice run next week.

Finally have some flow in SE Mich. Not enough to boil, but at least I did not miss the season entirely!

The cold weather has kept me shut down since 3/9 and now we have six fresh inches of snow with another 3-5 due on Friday. I read an article today that said the snow helps to extend the season.
