Nice end to a long weekend collected during the week n some from today to boil 200gal and made 4.5 gal,not bottled yet,I found to draw off syrup and let it sit settle down most what needs filtering, next day pour off clear reheat filter bottle then reheat the bottom of pot n filter this way all that's on the bottom doesn't clog the filter, the top almost doesn't need to be filtered but I do.i heat to 180 n bottle it,pic tomorrow of the color change from first batch.

Glad you had a good day. Started tapping and repairing a mainline that came down during the week yesterday. It ran a little but not much. Finished tapping today amist the snow and freezeing rain. Everything stayed frozen. Got the syrup pan welded. It only cost $25 and a quart of syrup. It's good to have friends. Hopefully in a couple of days I'll have enough sap to make some of that sweet stuff.

Nice. I had a Good run Wednesday. But only 100 gallons since . It stayed close to freezing since then. I'm hoping for a little warmth to get running again. Do you ever check sugar content ? I was at about 2% consistently and made about 3.5 gallons out of 240 gallons of sap. I try to get it done on evaporator or very close to it.

My first 2 years of doing this my sap was tested all the time. I was bringing it to Luscroft farms to be boiled. It tested at 1.8 to 2.0. Need to do a lot more thinning of the surrounding trees. Last year a friend loaned us a sap tester. My trees tested the same but the trees around the sugar shack tested at 2.7. Have about 20 yard trees there.

sounds like some good results from all.

My weekend was slow everything was basically frozen, including some sap from last week. Cooked it down this evening, sap was a little cloudy and syrup was pretty dark because it had set a few days, but allowed me to clean out the tank so I am ready if we get some action tomorrow.

It is nice to be all caught up!

    Cheers
