Been tapping for about 3 years now so still new to this and winters have been somewhat mild last couple years. Weather right now seems perfect so thinking of tapping next week. Too soon...?.

I just heard of an experienced guy in Mass. who's tapped some of his trees and is getting sap. I think you're on your own in RI. as far as when the best time is. Like the rest of us, you'll know for sure when the seasons over.

I tapped a few walnut trees and for walnut trees they ran great past couple days...but big freeze coming
Try to be all tapped in by early february. Usually runs 2-3 days around valentines day then quits till March1st.
This what our journal shows here in NY on vt border
I start tapping next week, to be finished by 1/20 is my goal. I'm also changing some more 5/16 to 3/16 where I ran out of 3/16 last year. After that in one woods I'll be about 30% 5/16 and 70% 3/16, my second woods will be all 5/16 (no hills)
Dave Klish, I recently ordered a 2x6 wood fired evaporator from A&A Sheet Metal which I will be converting to oil fired
Now have solar, 2x6 finish pan, 5 bank 7x7 filter press, large water jacketed bottler, and tankless water heater.
Recently bought another Gingerich RO, this one was a 125, but a second membrane was added thus is a 250, like I had.
After running a 2x3, a 2x6, 3x8 tapping from 79 taps up to 1320 all woodfired, now I'm going to a 2x6 oil fired and a 200-425 taps.
