Default 2007 - Nemadji State Forest

We tapped about 270 trees (with handmade sumac taps) starting last weekend (march 10/11th ish) They ran slow then froze up with all the cold weather. Then, Started running again yesterday. We tapped 75 more with stainless steel.

We boiled down our first 55 gallons (over open fire, in hand made boilers) last week. We got a delicious syrup with a strong vanilla-ish flavor to it. mmmm!

Its back out to camp for me tomorrow! happy Sugaring!!

I'm jealous!! Here in Beltrami County we can't threaten a maple into giving more than about a cup per day. Hoping that the weather change will get things going tomorrow. We have 145 taps and should be enough to keep my busy but if it won't run it gets really, really slow. In fact, if it doesn't start to run, I'm going to run out of excuses for ignoring the "honey-do" list!
