    Default Sugarhouse insulation

Currently I have a shack with walls that are only 1/2" thick. If I put some sort of insulation along the walls would that increase my boil time and overall success? The shack is approximately 12x14 and insulation isnt cheap!

The only insulation that will increase your boil will be in the arch. One problem with insulating the arch is that ALL the heat stays in there and the sugarhouse can get a little chilly. Won't be a problem here thou for my last 2 boils. It's suppose to be 70 outside.

No it will not help . Only keep you warmer save your money. An old timer once told me the heat is in the tools son, so get to work!

pair of showshoes and an inner tube and toboggan to haul it to the stove.
Boiling under a tarp again this year, hoping to build a shack in summer 2016. (Of course that was the plan for 2015 too )

I now know how easy it was for old timers to say such things. Now that I have a layer of fat protecting my six-pack, it only takes a little effort to keep warm. When I was younger, I couldn't hustle enough to keep warm.
