When I hired EnSave to do a energy audit of my maple operation they came back with a 25.2 year pay back for a steam away and "did not recommend" the installation due to the long pay back period. Maybe its because I am in NY?

    Brian,
I might ask to see Ensave calculations. Here is my calculations on my steamaway (todays price). 3x 10 oil evaporator. 80 gph evaporation, evaporation with 6 x 10 enhanced steam away, 142gph. 2017 boiling time on burner, 66.5 hrs. Boiling time without steam away. 66.5 x 1.75 = 116.4 hours. Difference in oil usage, 49.9 hrs x 7 gph = an additional 346.5 gal of oil x $2.40 per gallon = $831. 2017 enhanced steam away with early order discount, $8,958.00 payback $8,958.00 divided by $831.00 = 10.69 years. I would not want to boil without mine.

I don't understand how a steamaway is only going to save 2.4 cord of wood if you are boiling from 9000 taps.

    Brian,

Just out of curiosity, how many gallons of syrup did you make this season and how much wood did you use.
