ive seen one of the leader plastic presses in action it was interesting to watch, but i went with a aluminum plate press for longevity was my thoughts. my press was used when i bought it away, the price was right good luck with your choice and you will have clear syrup with minimal time and effort invested

With only 7 to 800 taps I would buy one of the smaller ones with fewer plates and sections. I would think with that tap count you will be looking at 15 to 20 gallons per day. So there is no sense in purchasing one that will do a lot more than that. Not saying you can't remove sections and plates and use a spacer to use it for smaller batches, just that unless you see yourself expanding in the future stay with a small one. I think Leader makes one of the plastic ones with 5 plates and know you can get a small aluminum one.
Then comes the decision as to whether you go with an air pump or gear pump
    Good luck

I have a 7" full bank cast iron for sale. On a tilt cart. On lower volume days I use spacers to use only 8 papers.

For 7-800 taps you should look at a Siro filter from Lapierre. No papers needed and very little filter aid easy to clean. They make a 12" or 24". I have a 24" and like it a lot.

I was realy interested in the idea of leaders polycarbonate press a couple years ago, was realy thinking of getting one, the odd size papers had me a bit hesitant tho. Then found out from a local sugarmaker who had one that he started his press, walked into the other room and came back to syrup all over the room, side of plastic frame had blown out. Hopefully just a freak thing, or leader may have improved the design now, but either way the thought of that happening in my small sugarhouse especialy with children and customers nearby was just too scary so i bought a 10 inch lappiere and have been very happy, small batches i use it with just one set of plates, usualy run with 2 plates, end of season use the full 3 plates if needed.
