Maple syrup is selling for $17.99 per quart as of last week in Alaska. The syrup is shipped from the states but a product of Canada. What I am wondering is can Vermont syrup be trucked across Canada? If not then does anyone know of a cheap way of shipping syrup. As of right now driving the syrup to Alaska would be the cheapest way of getting there. I also could ship it Flat rate at the post office using the big box that holds 5 quarts. Thank for any advise.

I've shipped syrup from Ontario to Vancouver on Greyhound bus. It's by far the cheapest way to send it long distances.

i have never been hastled bringing syrup produced in NH to Canada...never brought in huge quantities, but have brought in 10+gallons at a time in retail sizes. The BC border patrol agent asked what I was doing with it and I said "giving some of it away, selling some of it..." no problem.

just don't bring in 10 gallons of beer...you will pay a significant duty on that...

Spud, Syrup here in a rather busy farm stand/greenhouse operation in central NY is selling for $18.99 a qt. and another is selling at $19.99 a qt. You don't need to go to Alaska to get those prices. I'll bet you can do even better if you get into some more metropolitan stores, like in Boston, New York City, Philadelphia, Baltimore and many others.
Dave Klish, I recently bought a 2x6 wood fired evaporator from A&A Sheet Metal which I will be converting to oil fired
Now have solar, 2x6 finish pan, 5 bank 7x7 filter press, large water jacketed bottler, and tankless water heater.
Recently bought another Gingerich RO, this one was a 125, but a second membrane was added thus is a 250, like I had.
    After running a 2x3, a 2x6, 3x8 tapping from 79 taps up to 1320 all woodfired, now I'm going to a 2x6 oil fired and a 200-425 taps.

There is however another thought. If you were looking to hunt or just visit, maybe do some gold prospecting in Alaska, if you deliver syrup there the trip can be a business expense.

I know your right Maple Flats. Although it is not me trying to market the syrup. I have a very close friend who lives in Alaska but owns homes in Hawaii and California also. What he wants to do is sell maple syrup in quarts and pints to stores and have me ship it to the stores as the orders come in. He also will be trying to find market in Washington State where he has some family members living. My job is to bottle the syrup and ship it out. He pays for the shipping and the bottles. The only thing i am doing is buying a canner and telling the kids to not make any plans (haha). We still have some things to work out but several store owners ( big and small) are excited to start offering 100% Pure Vermont maple syrup. Time will tell. If anyone has advise or helpful thoughts on this please feel free to let me know. Thanks.

I just got back from a trip to Oregon and California and was surprised that syrup was not much more expensive than around here. The syrup was mostly organic, around $19 a quart. Crown Maple was the only expensive one. One interesting thing was a quart of sap went for $2.99 packaged in something like a paper milk carton and was on the shelf, not in a cooler.

why don't you go up to the border in Richford and ask them? When we used to bring our membranes across the border to be cleaned, we would stop at the US side and let them know what we had, and they would make out some paperwork for us so we could get back with them. (for Spud's question on transporting syrup through Canada)
