    Nice: I wish my dad was around to sugar with. I am happy for you. How was the syrup Heather?

    2016 block arch in progress eyeing up several trees. trying to figure best configuration for chimney. .
    2014: 20-25 taps block arch. 3- 6 inch deep steam table pans . 17 quarts of syrup from from reds, silvers and sugars.
    2011: 9 trees tapped block arch 2 steam table pans 1 side burner on the propane grill..1.5 gallons of syrup
    1 understanding and supportive wife
    1 daughter that loves all things maple

    Heather - Fill us in. Did You learn from Your Dad or did Your Dad learn from You. I was the first in my Family to make maple syrup (as far as I know) and my Father had passed several years before I was into making it - I would have loved to share this experience with my Dad. One of my Granddaughters and her Husband now make Maple Syrup and I am proud of them. Keep posting. I like your setup for adding sap to Your pans.

    I take my twin 12 year old granddaughters with me to tap and collect sap. They love it. My 19 year old grandson helps with the boiling.

    My dad is the one who started the craziness about four or five years ago. It all started with an aluminum arrow shaft stuck into a tree on my grandparents property. He attached one of the bags that boxed wine comes in (my dad is crazy clever) and one night he brought home one gallon, and me, (13 or 14 at the time) my little sister him and my mom all stupid around our kitchen stove and boiled it down to about a teaspoon worth.
    We now have a rather large shack that we spent the entire summer building. We've built the boiler and the drip and everything we use. My dad is really the mastermind behind it all. Check him out waterfowlah

    And to answer, it was fantastic. Had some in some black tea this morning.
    I'd highly recommend to anyone, try make milk. Icey cold milk with some fresh syrup drizzled in.... Yum!

    I wish my dad was around. New evaporator would amaamaze him. I have yet to name the new evaporator but I may name it after him

    Well I think it is awesome that you have the sugar bug. now it can be passed on down through the generations. Cudos to your dad as well it looks like he is pretty creative. well you need to be in this hobby.. make something from just about nothing and get a great reward for it. Glad to hear you are making awesome syrup. You go Girl!

    Ha yeah, I wasn't very into it at first, but as of late I've really been enjoying doing all this with the family. Sure, it's a bit of work but all of it's worth it when you look back and realize that all this time was spent with your family. Hopefully someday I'll have a family who is as into it as I've become. And yeah, my dad is really a smart guy. builds everything he uses, and is wicked with budgeting. We can do everything every year without breaking the bank, and that just makes it all the better!
