Yeah....would be a lot easier if it weren't for all those branches and trees in the woods to fall on the lines.

Wound up trucking 2k gal of .3% sap in, turned it into 400? Gal of 4%,, had 600 gal of 5% that I was gonna boil today but wound up fixing lots of smashed t's and pulled taps..dumped both head tanks back into the downstairs crunch tanks when I was done today's sap at 7..What the heck else are you gonna do with 400 gal of 4%? R.o is washing now. The plan is to recrunch to 8%..sap concentrate honestly tasted pretty good,,nothing ropey or slimy in the tanks when I drained them..
Supposed to get down to 25 tonight..sap still not buddy but some pretty radical looking buds on some of the reds out there..
Told the Sweet Goddess I make 300 more gallons of quality product or I'm firing up the skidder and I'm moving a large volume of soft maple firewood this summer..I got the first to go all picked out,,big 20 to 28" reds with real wet feet always have huge red buds..lots of rockie pole wood that grew since I thinned it last waiting for the sun in the reds shadow...

Froze last night, made 65 gal of very good B. Sugar spiked from .3% to 1%. Ran 2100 gallons in 12 hours, tank had 150 gallons in it 15 minutes ago. Still no bud taste in the sap.
Had a neck of a time getting Marvin drawing steady to start,,first draw was easier than normal then temp would come close to drawing and drop 3tents of a degree and stay there for 2 firings..came into it but a bit sketchy for half an hour or so. Got some crunch on my draw till today for the first time this year. Doesn't feel on real tight, I think some permeate will eat it up.

Lucky you, only got down to 34 here last night. Hate to say it but I'm glad to not be the only one getting sap that's .5% or worse... and still collecting it. Sad part is I'm boiling raw sap . Curious what you're using to haul around 2k gallons of sap, is that in one trip or several?

A 1992 f350 with a 7.3idi. With a 525gal. Tank. Boiling .5% are sap grants you hero status in my book. That is WANTING IT..as the great THEERROON and ROYAL MAPLE would say. How is your wood pile holding up?
Slow start with overcast skies, hauled in 750 with what ran last night to noon today, crunched it into 750 gal of 5.5%, washing RO now, might re crunch to 8 or 9 and boil tonight,,,May be,, drained my draw till, weird,,shiny stainless but felt like shark skin,,permeate seems to be loosening it up,,water turns cloudy after some hand scrubbing,,can't see the stuff stuck on the pan but can see it when it dissolves into the permeate?.. opposite side draw till feels a little slimy on the bottom,,gonna clean that out in a minute,,been draining, cleaning my float boxes every boil,,flue pan looks super clean, feels fine,, just starting to see cheese build up in woods tank,,been cleaning woods tank every run since the warm weather started,, really should empty the flue pan and wash it,,but I have only made 360 ish gal...probably tomorrows project if the sap does not start to run harder.

I was pretty tired last night and got all ready to boil the 4.5% I had but, was just not focused enough. Got another 525 gal at 6pm, started trucking at 4:30 this morning, hauled in 1300 gal of .5%. Washed woods tank, crunching that now, in about 2 hours I will wash the r.o and re crunch everything to 8% and boil.
Supposed to freeze well tonight and decent weather for a few days. We will see what that brings.
GOOD LUCK TO ALL STILL IN THE FIGHT. MAY YOUR SAP BE 3% AND YOUR BOIL BE SMOOTH.

Always love the look of those older 90's fords, the 7.3 is a nice addition, that's one hell of a sap hauler. Way under the syrup i was trying to make this season, so even boiling .5% raw sap is better than nothing i guess. Still have two cord in my woodshed that had 4 cord when the season started, another reason i figured I'd just boil the last couple runs before i throw in the towel. Will give me more motivation this summer to cut up and split those dead standing pines I've been wanting to deal with for years and fill the shed again. 20210331_184037.jpg

Another slow start yesterday. It did manage to run looks like 1200 or so gallons, left it in the tank.. I love that big 2850 gallon tank compared to the 1500 gal. Tank that had been there.
Bought some wire mesh yesterday for Margins stack. The old mesh had burned/ rotted out and I really don't like the idea of infighting all the dry leaves around the sugarhouse.
Every year I sell 15 gallons to a neighbor who likes good strong B syrup, I filled 3 five gallon jugs from the last boil, he came and got them yesterday,,,he loved the syrup and wants another 10 gallons,, we will see what I make next boil.
20 degrees here now, supposed to get into the 50s here today,,the lows of 34 the next w nights so it might freeze in the sugarwood,,should be able to go for a bit longer, we will see what the Sweet Goddess is into.
RELOADED, RESTED AND READY TO ROLL FULL BARRELS RIGHT OUT THE DOOR,,,GET SOME!!!!!!
