I too had a sugar house cleanup a while back. A guy from town who gathers metal came up and I filled his truck and trailer. I was willing to pay the guy but he was happy just to take my metal. The only junk I have left is about 35 tires. I'm trying to find a farmer who would take them for his silage pile. Looks like I might get a little sap later today. Starting Wednesday things should really start flowing. Good luck to you.

    Default Lifting straps?

Is the outside surface of the stack rough enough for lifting straps to get some purchase on? Maybe one on each side w come-a-longs to framing above? Give a call if you need a hand.

In the Spring of '15, after boiling with Eric Johnson of Tucker Mountain Maple for 10 years, we began boiling the sap from our 3-400 taps here. I bought my rig from Eric, a 2-1/2 X 8 raised flue on a custom air-injected wood-fired arch. We put our syrup up in glass and sell til we run out. We are not using vacuum, an RO or filter press.

Lifting straps should work if the stack can handle it. Sorry I cannot help you on that. I don't know anyone who has a spare.

Between the previous sap i had and what ran today i had full tanks at the sugarhouse..debated filling the concentrate tank and recirculating until i had it empty,,but,,that all takes time and babysitting so ifired up the r.o and crunched it all down to 700 gal of 9%..my plan was to boil it tonight..but...fixing the stack took longer than expected..i wound up getting some steel and fabbing up a base..lifting the stack was not bad..used rarchet straps...
I did try to get another collar (not stack base, my bad). Bascoms had 2 but the wrong width (16" wide instead of 12.5") i called leader..in stock item,,but the $780.00 price tag.really?..come on guys..you want to sell something ??? That still hurts my head...$780....anyways...got the evaporator all put together by 8pm..i cleaned the pans well last spring but i want to boil permeate and get them spotless...still got a pile of tools to get put away in the stack area.get a press out and put together and get some barrles out.throw wood in front of the evaporator..ect.ect...i have the heat tape on the head tank valve so freezing should not be an issue
My latest starting date was today the first year i boiled..another year i logged late
Looking forward to making some steam

Do you ever question the nature of your reality?

    Well, yes. Sometimes i do..
Was what was going thru my head at 6pm yesterday as i was laying on the collar ties above the syrup pan hood with a bucket of water and a sponge cleaning the dust and grime while looking at previous first boil dates on the wall, knowing yet another day would pass befor i made syrup.
Frustrating...thinking of years past and how much syrup we had made by now,,,the squads of help contirbuting to the effort..ahh,,but the only constant in this life is change..
But. My brother came down from Maine yesterday,,we boiled permeate,,and cleaned the daylights out of the sugarhouse,,then my sister arrived later in the day and we cleaned some more. We were trying to remember the last time just the 3 of us had worked together..mabey 35 years ago getting wood in and our parents house??The sugarhouse is definatly ready to go now..it was 9 pm by the time i got home from shutting of ths vacuum pump at rte.11 (500 gal yesterday)..i was beat and figured that concentrate would last another night with this cold weather..
Today i will shake the boiling syrup monkey off my back...
