I should be able to finish tapping by early afternoon then we will make our first run at getting the vacuum pump going and set the releaser up. The rain knocked the snow pack down to about 4 inches and the cold froze it pretty solid so i can walk on the crust which makes it good traveling in the woods.

Got everything up to 22 inches of vac and was surprised to see 700 gallons in the tank when i came out of the woods..all nanky mung from cleaning out the lines. Dumped it then did some quick math. Releaser dumping every minute is about 250 gal/hr..it was 3pm the tank is 1500 gal. No freeze. My feeling of elation instantly turned a little anxsty... As the realization that i had not really even considerd the next nessacary step.. trucking...i flew home loaded the tank found my pump and hoses and by 9pm had the transportation os Salibiry Sugarworks on thd road....got 500gal home

    Happiness is reality minus expectations
Its been a hard pull the last 2 days...i got 2000 gal of sap trucked home and started changing the membrane in the r.o..i got the membrane 2 weeks ago and put it in the sugarhouse and somehow..not in the r.o. room which is heated...well the membrane preservitive was frozen...called MES and Clayton said probably ok to run...took 12 hours to thaw out..shifted my focus to the final cleaning of the evaporator..put water in the headtank and opened the valve to the evaporator and the valve broke in half..600 gal of water behind it...was not expecting that..managed to stop the deluge by jamming a rubber plug i have in the outlet of the tank and flew to home depot for 2 new 1 1/4 inch valves (always buy 2 of what you need)..now its 9pm..as i was changing the valve i realized at one point i had been not moving for like 2 or 3 minutes..kinda asleep standing up. Time for bed. Got up yesterday..put the membrane in the ro got everything ready to crunch opened the valve for raw sap and herd that awful hissing of air leaking out of the pipe as the sap pushed thru the pipe,,thinking it was a loose frenco i rushed to grab a screwdriver only to see a guyser of sap spewing from the 2inch valve,,,it was split in half.. ( now both of these valves were open all summer really dont know how they split..just a test from the sweet goddess i think) flew back to home depot for 2 2inch valves..trucked more sap then got to crunching..thank goodness the r.o. was cranking at 7.5p and 2.5 c....love MES menbranes....made my wash water and rinsed..then crunched 500 gal of 6% into the head tank..got one load of sap lastniht which is in the crunch tank ready to go...spent an insane ammount of time cleaning the sugarhouse up..put the presses together,,got wood infront of evaporator.was 8pm when i was done and decided to wait to boil today..still catching up on rest after the big push tapping and leak patrol.....going to start the vac. In a bit.....

Saw a post on facebook today, a fellow out in NewYork had 3000 gallons in barrels all stacked up outside his sugarhouse allready..felt kinda bad for a second.
But then i started boiling 6%..Man that first boil of the year is nice, sweetened the pans and filled a barrel. 1000 gallons in the woods for tommrow. Looking forward to sleeping in

"Allways be greatul for a worthy opponent"

Thought iwould hve time to take care of some loose ends yesterday,,took my car to rte 11 and fueled and statrted the pump..1000 gal. In a 1500 gal. Tank.,but,,as i as going to collect my first load of sap yesterday i noticed the temp.in my F 350 rising above normal soon the temp.was almost in the red.i had checked the antifreeze ad oil befor i left. Pulled over and checked the belts ect. Nothing looked out of the ordinary..i let the truck cool down and returned home.
3 hours later i had a new thermostate installed and was trucking sap. The tank was 3 inches fm the top when i finally got there.
So much for tying up loose ends.

The joys of keeping old equipment running. At Least your tank didn't run over before you got back there.

I've had to call Parker before when I thought I was going to overheat. Always on top it.

    Never a dull moment

Cold here yesterday morning. Got the vacuum going at 9am. When i changed the thermostate in the ford i broke the power wire end off the altenator. Truck was not charging. Found and fixed that. Sap was not really running much at 11am so Ray and i went and installed a carborator on NHmaple48s vacuum pump. Got back around 3pm. Ran over to rte11 to get a load of sap thinking there would be about 1000gal in the tank.......mabey 500 there and the vac was 14" instead of 23". Ran home dumped 500 gal. Started the RO, and got my mainline repair tool some straight connectors and t's and ran up into the woods (i can isolate where a leak is with thd valves on the mainlines befor the releaser) the mainline furthest away from the releaser had a straight connector that broke in half. Went back to the sugarhouse and was greated by the sickining smell of burning electric components..the ro was still running. High pressure pump was very hot. Started investigating and found the power cord was hot...and the outlet was hot.....shut the ro down and shut off thd breaker tore the 50amp outlet apart and found it was melting. I had a spare outlet replaced it and back at it.. i had visions of being in Swanton right now with lots of sap backed up getting my pump rebuilt.. Real greatful it was an easy fix. Trucked 2 more loads home by 10pm. Have 600 gal of 7% in the main headtank. Froze here at 10pm lastnight. 30 deg here now.
