Russ..i dont think i have missed too much yet...whats your total way down there where its warm?..and i might be tapping hill when your done..dont know...i do know im having fun...and im going to have fresh holes.....i love a fresh hole....last year i made the mistake of tapping befor that 80 degree day in febuary at rte.11....a very bad idea as rte.11 for the first time ever gave poor production....i think i tapped hill in april and was blown away with the best ever production there...weired....never giving a dammm inch and having fun...very importent...
Not a drop of sap today as i was tapping..might get it done tommrow but thats a long shot.....lost a solid 16 inches of snow with this warm weather..

You haven't missed much. I did my 2nd boil of the season last night and have only made 12 gallons of syrup. It's the same for everyone else in Loudon. Mike at Sunnyside was boiling this afternoon and it was his 2nd boil as well. A couple of other producers on the ridge tapped early enough to make some syrup in February but have been froze up like the rest of us since then.

Im all tapped at rte.11,,,was surprised yesterday and very surprised today how hard it was running on gravity..was 15 deg. Here this morning and mid to upper 30s today..ice and snow still aginst the trees but the snow has dropped to about 10 to 14 ish inches of hard pack..but they were really starting to run..gotta splice the mainline back together in 2 spots,,rebuild a carburator lube up and transport the releaser change some oil haul 25 gallons of water and cross my fingers...then leak patrol
    Great day in the woods

Parker, knowing your orchards tend to run cold anyway I don't think you missed a **** thing. Even my south east facing Orchard has only run twice so far and both of those were at 50% at best. You are in the game and on schedule.

Usualy i tap Sanborns (800) first which is south facing but never really get enough to boil until i tap north facing rte.11(1800)..but Sanborns will run log befor rte11 will..i figured it was late enough that 11 will be running by the time i get it tapped so why not have enough to boil then do Sanborns....most years Sanborns stops running by the time i tap Hill (1600, due north face and unusually cold with very deep snow)l..late march early april..i will be interested to see how Sanborns goes this year

Rte.11 is all tapped..was able to get the vacuum pump and releaser working,,,i only hooked 900 of the 1800 taps to the releaser to make leak checking a bit eaiser (releaser wont dump below 5 inches of vacuum),,,,,,was very surprised that i only had 6" of vacuum......hitting the woods today...
