Great posts Parker. Following you guys up north hoping for some good sap for you. Definitely an interesting year temperature wise which may impact what I do in the future if you guys get another couple of good runs after this cold spell. Good Luck

Heck if I were closer I'd go thaw releasers for you. Too short a season down here again.

Thanks walnut,,,,,i was out washing releasers and tanks and starting pumps at 6an it was 36 deg when i got to each tank,,,no run then,,,i have driven to each orchard and dumped tanks and rinsed 3 times today(ray did a couple),,now have a small run going with rain and 50 deg,,,might have to pull the reds everywhere but hill,,,lots o nasty still comming out of systems,,, tastes like low sugar except in hill,,,i think sanborns might be done as hardly any flow ( tapped real early)....we will keep after it thru tommrow and see what happens,,,, started gathering up my chainsaws in one place and getting the hood yardcrane ready to start doing a bunch of cut and split firewood orders i have,,,tinking as soon as i start something ealse it will run hard,,,,,,,never know.....dont plan on boiling any nasty as the price is too low for me....LAY YOUR SHOULDER INTO THE COLLAR AND PULL!!!

    Default All Done...

I finished yesterday. Didn't end of collecting again, ran the vacuum and whole milk came out. It cleared up but by that point I had already decided to pull the plug. I chased water through the evaporator yesterday, finished the season at 575 or .438 gallons of syrup per tap. Our best season ever. If you say buddy syrup is going for $1.25 I'm glad I quit. At 11lbs to the gallon thats only $13.75 per gallon, even logging might pay better than that!

Logging can pay more than that depending on what breaks and how the mills treat you,,but its tough to find ground to work on now,,,,,and i have the rest of the year to log,,,,,

Parker, I'm still hanging in here in Canterbury. Looking for a run today with the sun out strong and light winds. My North facing trees haven't budded yet, so no reason to quit. I think I have one more boil in the mix; Fingers crossed.
