We need some good freeze ups it has hit 30 degrees a couple nights but only for a matter of an hour or two.... Sap flow has been tapering off since Tuesday as has the sugar, we've produced half of our last year's total of 822(1000 more taps and more vac) all light Amber except our last Barrel was dark amber. Mostly south facing slopes and 15% reds mixed in- we generally don't see much fancy if any.

Haven't had a freeze since Monday night and the sap flow pretty much stops overnight. Only 150 gal. since 4pm yesterday. It should pick up again today, as it did yesterday, when the sun comes out...
You're over 100 gallons of syrup from 750 taps General? Wow, that sounds like the start of a great season.

I'm feeling good about it. I'm at about 30% of what I made last year. Hopefully we can all go until April!

Agreed -- we're at 30% too, which seems great at this point in time. Glad to have a bit of cold weather to get some rest and let the crew have a day or two off though. Still fairly early.

30% here as well I don't see any big freeze ups or heat waves coming so should be productive at least through middle of March Hope there isn't to much wind damage after this storm gets out of here howling pretty good right now

it's kind of neat looking at the line of the storm. pretty much from Johnson, north, (east anyways) we haven't gotten anything. no wind, barely any precipitation... below Johnson it's pretty nasty!

I didnt get enough to boil & the temps got too warm. So I waited a few days and then pumped the tank out onto the ground. It was starting to spoil.

Im going to walk my lines this weekend. I dont think I am getting as much sap flow as I should. But My sugarbush unfortunately needs afternoon sun which could be the culprit.

Sap started to run about 11:30 this morning and over the next 8 hours, the 2,348 taps ran 1.14 GPT. I just got back from hauling 2,130 gal back to the sugar house just to make sure there was enough room (hopefully) in the 3,894 gal tank to hold the rest of the run overnight. Looks like a long day tomorrow.
