If they get their info from the Ag Census, inaccuracies are mostly the result of producers not returning the info, thus their taps and syrup never get counted. But My first suggestion is to read it again. Many reports that deal with high numbers will report the numbers maybe like this: 7800 taps (but some where it will indicate that the numbers x1000 or something. If that is the case the total might be 7,800,000 taps. Look again.
Dave Klish, I recently bought a 2x6 wood fired evaporator from A&A Sheet Metal which I will be converting to oil fired
Now have solar, 2x6 finish pan, 5 bank 7x7 filter press, large water jacketed bottler, and tankless water heater.
Recently bought another Gingerich RO, this one was a 125, but a second membrane was added thus is a 250, like I had.
    After running a 2x3, a 2x6, 3x8 tapping from 79 taps up to 1320 all woodfired, now I'm going to a 2x6 oil fired and a 200-425 taps.

I got that almanac a couple of days ago and although there was a lot of good info, I found some of it difficult to interpret. Whats the difference between production 1000 gal. and gallons 1000 gal.? The asterisk says lbs.x1.51+gal. I'm confused.

I don't even buy those numbers. It can't be possible that Bascom has 65,000 taps and the rest of the state only adds another 13,000 taps. Are all of Bascom's taps in NH or does he have some in Vt?
I still say a whole lot of NH producers don't participate in the census and fall thru the cracks.

There is no way any of the numbers are even close to being right. They can only be as good as the information giving to them. There are hundreds of sugar maker's that don't share their numbers with anyone. A lot of people don't want the government knowing what they are doing and try to hide their syrup money. There are also dead beat dad's that have 15,000 taps but only claim to make a few hundred gallons per year. I know a few of these guys and it's wrong.

Just checked NASS numbers for NH production for 2013. they have 460,000 taps and 124,000 gallons produced. This is the number that the USDA has. Don't have a clue where that other info is coming from. I doubt either is accurate but the NASS will be a bit closer. still suffers from lack of reliaBLE AND COMPLETE DATA.

I think Doug's last set of numbers are close to the best guess we can get. The number and gallons divided by the number of taps is close to the right ratio. Do the rest of the numbers in the almanac jive for other states? The other number I seem to remember off hand was vermont produces around 1 million gallons of syrup.
