How many reds do you have? If that is the only one and you have a bunch of sugars you might want to pull the taps on that one.

I have mostly reds here so pulling mine would shut down most of my woods. When it gets buddy I'm done.

They are starting to open....i thought that they would close back up seeing it was 16 degrees here last night...but they are popping open...i would like to keep those taps in but i dont want to chance mixing it with the sap from my colder bush...there's only 4 or 5 trees that look like this so far and seeing as they are backyard trees, im not surprised that they are the first to go. Last week was the first really good week for us up here, other than one early run (followed by a 2 week freeze up). Hopefully the rest of the trees hang on a bit longer..i'd hate to have another short season...

I have 2 trees in really wet soil by my creek that look like that. They never really gave a lot of sap this year or last year...you'd think closer to water they would give more sap!?

I had the same experience. I had 1/2 dozen trees right on the edge of a small creek and none of them produced very. I'm not sure I'm going to tap any of them next year.

I don't imagine you have too many trees budding in Berlin, do you? Berlin is usually much colder than anywhere else around here. I think you will be boiling for a couple of weeks longer than the rest of us.
