    Are basswood trees in the maple family? Can they be tapped?

    Basswood are in the Tilia family.
    Maples are in the Acer family.
    Basswood cannot be tapped.

    No, they are good for carving duck decoys and feeding the odd grouse but not much use other than that. Don't even burn that good either.

    I was told by a forester that they are very good for your sugarbush. The decomposing leaves add good stuff to the soil for maples.
