I only have red maples and some silver (I don't tap the silvers as they don't seem to ever run for me)...maybe reds don't run sap as heavy as the sugars do? Not sure.
Reds don't run as good as sugars and not as sweet either. Some of mine won't run on gravity at all. They all run on vacuum and they make good tasting syrup.
