BrutemanAl, this is the unit I have. Technically it is just called a gas burner and not a turkey fryer, but that's just what everyone seems to refer to it as.

I am going to pay much more attention to how I start this thing up. Maybe I've been just a little too anxious! Also, I have been getting quite a bit of soot on the bottom of my pan, so I'll make sure that I'm burning cleaner by adjusting the air intake. Many thanks for your help. If it still doesn't work I should check out Canadian Tire to see what they have at my local store in the way of a replacement.
