Default Looking to move to Virginia

I am heading for the hills and interested in moving somewhere between Kentucky and North Carolina. One desire is to find acreage in a good maple sugaring community. What counties or areas in Virginia are amongst the best for Sugaring ?

    Thanks,
    Ronald

I was just in that area last week. Beautiful country and saw lots of nice looking local syrup for sale.

    Thanks for replies !

I live near Chardon, Oh ( Maple Syrup capital of the world !!! :-) )
but unfortunately we are bordering on the utica shale and fracking appears to be the wave of the future.

( I'm getting too old to move twice and peace of mind is pretty important )

Is fracking going on in Highland county ?

    Thanks once again,
    Ronald

    Ronald,
might be some utica shale there, I'm down stream from them, and all of the marcellas washed to the sea many many years ago, probably more like a half a billion years. Bring your winning lotto ticket land is not cheap there.

    Hi Ronald,
No Fracking in Highland County - you should check out the Highland County Chamber of Commerce website - there is a lot of info there... Also check out our website, www.welcometobackcreek.com

    Hope this helps.

What's wrong with drilling and fracking? I hope you didn't watch "gasland" and believe it.

    Mapleack,
I would love to lease my land for drilling, sadly nothing underground, luckily maples on the surface.

I'm a big fan of energy independence to be sure but a bigger fan of a tranquil retirement in the most undisturbed natural setting I can find. As for fracking's long term impacts I really do not know.

I am certain we have enough untapped/capped resources currently available to satisfy our energy needs but are simply unwilling to retrieve it.

( I admit it is hypocritical adopting the "not in my neighborhood" stance but I digress......... )

Now it's just a matter of finding the correct combo for the lottery before the dollar collapses !
