56 yes, 9 no -- I make all my own beer, but never drink anything if there's any possibility of having to drive and the sugarhouse is at Dave's/maple flats, about 40 minutes away in good weather. I haven't tended the evaporator for Dave yet this year, though, so maybe I don't count.
As far as giving beer to your dogs -- be careful, or at least aware, that some sources claim that hops causes malignant hyperthermia in canines. It's been bandied about a great deal, some agree some disagree. As far as I'm concerned, I've seen plenty of dogs given beer and have even seen some dogs eat the spent trub containing whole hops and nothing happened to them at all, but at least two of my friends have had this happen to their dogs and they nearly lost them. Maybe it all boils down to something akin to how some people die from ingesting trace amounts of peanuts, who knows. Just an FYI.
Also, Terry -- beer is a LOT less likely to go skunky if it's not in clear or green bottles that have been exposed to sunlight, UV or flourescent lights. The only exception is Miller, they don't use hops they use hop oils and the light exposure doesn't affect hop oils.
As far as buying beer: GO OMMEGANG!!!!!!! hah! Love their stuff.... and not to far away, either.
P.S. - I think the count got screwed up someplace or two along the way.
But, what do I know - I'm having a glass of one of my finest ales to date. Ahhhh.....
