What to do - what to do? I told myself I was going to wait until atleast next week. Tapping for the first time - don't screw it up. We've had good sap weather for a while now and the 10-day forecast looks pretty good. I found myself tapping the silver maple behind the house on Friday and the sap was running out of it. It was mid-afternoon and I just couldn't quit. I went down the road and put in a few more til the drill batteries died. I put 15 more taps - all sugar maples, on Saturday, still telling myself to save a few for next weekend. The forecast was teasing me though so today my son and I popped in 10 more - 5 big sugars,1 black, 2 reds, and 2 silvers. I started out aiming for 20 and finally got stopped at 30! We collected 5 gallons today off of those 19 sugars and 1 silver. The sugars were 3% and the silver at 2%. Now I'm hoping I did the right thing. Good, bad, or otherwise I'm all in.
