I started getting some messages asking if I'm ok since I have not posted in awhile, and I am. Fixing tubing from the monster storm of March 2nd, then getting my maple mojo back, and then refreshing lots of tap holes left me little time for anything else but work, beer, and sleep. I think I'm still married? Sap started back up and I'm now up to 1,200 gals of finished syrup. I hope to go till April 20th and with the mountains still snow covered it is a possibility. Good luck to those still going.

    Default snow covered catskills

Yea ... I noticed yesterday from 60 miles southwest in the Hudson Highlands ... from Ninham fire tower ... that the southern slopes of the Catskills are still all white .... please report back in with your last sap collection date.

My trees are starting to quit on me, but only my small bushes. Sap flowed well from my upper bushes and was 2% sugar. Boiling again tomorrow. Next couple of days may be the end of a very difficult season. Cancer was bad, but three feet of wet heavy snow with 50mph winds was more work!

Had a couple spare hours so I refreshed my upper bushes this week, 2,000 taps roughly, and has it paid off. Another 4 barrels filled that would still be empty. Went back up to Amber today too. We have a winter weather advisory this weekend and buds are tight. Guess I have another week of sugaring. I love my job being a mountain maple man.

Way to go Van. I pulled my taps this week, but half the lines were still movings, however slowly. Some 3/16 line were till pulling 25+". Nothing budding anywhere. I heard the peepers last night. Some say that's a sign.

Needing more barrels is a good thing.
Dave Klish, I recently ordered a 2x6 wood fired evaporator from A&A Sheet Metal which I will be converting to oil fired
Now have solar, 2x6 finish pan, 5 bank 7x7 filter press, large water jacketed bottler, and tankless water heater.
Recently bought another Gingerich RO, this one was a 125, but a second membrane was added thus is a 250, like I had.
    After running a 2x3, a 2x6, 3x8 tapping from 79 taps up to 1320 all woodfired, now I'm going to a 2x6 oil fired and a 200-425 taps.

Another 26 gals today, not quite a barrel. Sap flowed well today so back to it tomorrow. I may have to get out my 55 gallon drums if this keeps up. Still cleaning tanks and chasing leaks. Due diligence this year.
