Default PVC Gate Valve with Spigot Connections

Looking at PVC gate valves for my sap tanks and want some of them to have a union type fitting on at least one side so I can take the piping apart. In my search on Grainger's site, I came across spigotxspigot connections (link below). What are these? I've never seen these and haven't found good info online.

    Thanks
    Josh

not sure i understand the question there is a picture that shows the valve style well in your link, they are just a sliding plate that shuts off the flow when you push the handle, and slides out when you open it so sap can flow thru.

Josh, I haven't seen gate valves like you are describing. However, if you search Grainger for "Union ball valve" you will find a valve that will accomplish what I think you are looking for. Be sure to get the type you are looking for,,, threaded, or solvent/glue. They are very dependable valves, and the union feature will keep the ball tight.

The valve shown in the Grainger link is a waste valve for motor homes and RVs, used for draining the gray water tanks. They're prone to bending and breaking the handle. I'd avoid those. As said above, search for "union ball valve." Some real good options are there.

I think these are the same valves as supplied by CDL w/ their RO machines. I was considering these because there's no ball to freeze. Also, the plumbing area is tight and these valves are about 1/2 the length of a ball valve. Lowe's carries a 1/2 union 2" ball valve (union on one side only) which is my second choice.

I think the photo is generic to that style gate valve and isn't connection specific...the photo for the FNPT and slip connection style valves is the same image. What I'm wondering is what is the connection like? It's not a slip connection because it'd be your standard PVC glue fitting and it's not FNPT. I've' never heard of a spigot connection.

    Thanks.

spigot just means the pipe size end on the valve, meaning instead of sliding a pipe into the socket to glue together, the end of the valve is made to slide into a pvc fitting to be glued, not sure why they dont just call it male ends like they do with threaded pipe but thats what it is

That would make far more since if they just called it a male fitting...thanks for clarifying. Quarters are tight so a male fitting would eliminate a section of pipe and save space. Thanks.
