    Default Cleaning a transfer pump

Anyone have suggestions for cleaning out a transfer pump? I have a power mate pump operated by a honda gx4 four-stroke engine. Can I run bleach or vinegar through it or should I just get in there with a toothbrush? Used one year and ran clear water through it after the season but looks like a build up of crusty crud inside.

Hey Littlesap - Hot White Vinegar cleans the well water mineral buildup out of an electric drip coffee pot - why not on a pump. First we run a pot of straight white vinegar through, then a half vinegar half water mix through and then a pot of all water to get the vinegar taste and smell out. then it is good to make another 100 pots of coffee till it starts acting up. So - I wonder if you filled the pump with hot vinegar and let soak for an hour and then flushed it out if that would work? worth a try and white vinegar is fairly cheap.

if its just the crusty crud left from sap i would simply let if recirculate a barrel of warm water for a half hour or so and it will likely clean up nice! have you had any luck finding a dairy tank littlesap? i recall you were looking for one earlier in the year

OK, thx, I'll try the vinegar today. Yeah, Mark, I found a 300 gallon tank over in Hebron couple weeks back, pretty psyched. I know you were looking for zero tanks but if you want some bulk storage he had three more of varying sizes. Ad is on here somewhere but if you want one and can't find it I have his info.

glad to hear you found a tank, i was able to get a 500 gallon vac tank from a member on here in ny state and then also bought a 300 gal open top dairy tank from a guy in southbury, he still has a 350 or maybe 400 gal tank also for sale if you needed one
