    Default How's the garden's doing???

How's the garden's doing. I have alot of small plants!!! they got stunted from the early rains. They seem to be finally growing a little corn is VERY short. no Beets, no zucc yet and only 1 yellow squash and as we all know they usually go crazy. lots of cuccs but this is the second planting, something snipped of the first batch!!! and I have no beans yet either!!!

But weird thing my peas are still going and still producing. get tired of eating peas need some other veggies to even things out a little.

My plants are also on the small side. They seem to be kicking in now. The heat of the last couple of weeks seems to be helping.

I have all raised beds and have only watered twice all season.

Garden was doing great until she who must be obeyed decided to spray fertilizer or a insecticide-fungicide combo don't know which and killed off all the tomatoes, cabbage, culiflower and squash and pumpkins. Some how she got Roundup in there as it even killed off the grass in places. Oh and the blueberry bushs and the ruhrbarb. All this for a few dumb bugs and a couple black spots.
    maybe 50 taps for 2011
Finally ready to boil when I get enough sap
I just might be crazy.( make that I know I am)
Trees all tapped except the ones with 5 feet of snow.
Enough rabbits to keep Elmer busy..

    Wow, that is terrible.
We have a poor blueberry crop, running at 1/3 at this point. In the garden, peas goo, beans just coming on, Strawberries did poorly, raspberries summer crop fair, fall crop looks like it will be super. Having hard time keeping deer out. Both gardens have a 7' fence but the deer still jump it. We just raised the fence, will see how that does. Now it it 8.5' high. Our soil is super so the plants look very tempting to the deer. Our 7' fence is light weight deer netting, they sometimes run right thru it. We just discovered a much heavier 8" poly fencing that we will be trying. This one costs over $400 for a 8' x 330' roll and we need 3 rolls, maybe 4, not sure about post price yet.
Dave Klish, I recently bought a 2x6 wood fired evaporator from A&A Sheet Metal which I will be converting to oil fired
Now have solar, 2x6 finish pan, 5 bank 7x7 filter press, large water jacketed bottler, and tankless water heater.
Recently bought another Gingerich RO, this one was a 125, but a second membrane was added thus is a 250, like I had.
    After running a 2x3, a 2x6, 3x8 tapping from 79 taps up to 1320 all woodfired, now I'm going to a 2x6 oil fired and a 200-425 taps.

For a fall deer fence I suggest lead. It can be put up several ways including buckshot slugs or bullets and is very effective!

If your like us there has been too much rain and humidity recently. That might be a possible cause.
NH/Pete, I had a ground hog 2 or 3 yrs ago. He was hard to get. I put out a baited live trap but he was too smart. I finally had to shoot him from a distance. Even with that he made it to his hole and went in. I filled in the hole and never saw him again. good luck!

Default always something to irritate a person

Flatlander, Just a hunch but i would guess you got powdery mildew on your plants. Typical this time of year especially with the shortness of the days and lots of moisture both rain and humidity. My pumpkin patches and squash patch all have a touch of it and the vines are now all breaking down letting me get a glimpse of the crop that is hidden beneath the jungle. Lots of orange and nice size howden pumpkins. I did start harvesting squash and selling a week ago. Butternut squash needs a tad bit more time, 120 day seeds. Back to the powdery mildew, if it's affecting the actual veggie, i would say you got it real bad. sometimes on my pumpkins the stem might have a bit on it but a rag washes it off at harvest time. You might have some other type of problem??? Hope it dosn't wipe your crop out.

i will know more about the garden in the morning, it spent majority of day under water. Will this make any of the vegis or fruit bad?
