No frost here either and with the snow we got today, hopefully that will help keep the frost away. Some of the best years I had, mud was almost non existent, but there is more mud and water this year than I have ever seen. Lot of rain and warm temps last 5 weeks. I thought last year was the worst, but it pales in comparision to this year. 8O

I only have a few inches of frost on top now........but its going down fast now! We lost all of our snow on the south slopes and ridge tops, only an inch or two of snow on the north slopes. The forecast is for roller coaster temps below freezing for the next 2 weeks here. I hope, but am afraid I am going to be in the same shape again.....no snow and cold weather=fast, penetrating frost.

Kevin.....why keep dwelling on sap loss? Seems like you just can't get off the subject! What are you going to do about it?? You are going to give yourself an ulcer!

I cannot speak for New Hampshire. Parkers tree ran more in a few hours than mine has in the last 2 weeks. You fellas are further south. I did not miss much and like Parker said, the earlier you tap, the earlier you are done.

Most years, I make way more syrup in April than I do in March. Would it be wise to tap the middle-20th of January and expect them to be running strong yet in April? You tell me. That would be expecting 10 to 12 weeks out of a taphole.

Kevin....Why has my red maple only ran me a cup of sap??

recheck your measurements. Is one really 2.5"?, can't calculate if wrong input. Is it a rectangle, flat bottom, round bottom, need the exact shape.
Dave Klish, I recently bought a 2x6 wood fired evaporator from A&A Sheet Metal which I will be converting to oil fired
Now have solar, 2x6 finish pan, 5 bank 7x7 filter press, large water jacketed bottler, and tankless water heater.
Recently bought another Gingerich RO, this one was a 125, but a second membrane was added thus is a 250, like I had.
    After running a 2x3, a 2x6, 3x8 tapping from 79 taps up to 1320 all woodfired, now I'm going to a 2x6 oil fired and a 200-425 taps.

assuming the ends are slightly oval (30" H x 52" W) I used 28" as the radius ( averaged 30 and 26) I end up with about 1015 gal. This is if my mem. serves me that a cu ft is about 7.5 gal. If anyone sees a flaw in my calculations let me know. I calculated the cu ft vol of 1/2 a cylinder and then mult. by 7.5 gal

Thanks for the info! I think it will work for Hill,,It will be a job making a rugged pad for it, (bad spot),,,still have to get it painted,,,still need to redo the elec. entrance in Hill, run a dry line from the releaser to the pump,,
Rte.11 is ready to tap,,Hoit road is ready to tap,,Putney hill is ready to tap,,Foultons needs a littel more work but getting there. I might even have time to get Hattens in the center of Salisbury set up properly this year,,,I will have to say one thing about having warm weather and no snow,,,you can fly around in the woods!!
